“Comfort zones are plush lined coffins. When you stay in your plush lined coffins, you die” – Stan Dale
Does that quote shock you? Yes? Then I’ve got your attention.
So it is 2012… a new year and time to reflect on what you actually achieved in 2011 and compare it with what you actually wanted to achieve in 2011.
If you didn’t achieve all you wanted you need to ask yourself, ‘why not?’ Is it possibly because you just got too comfortable doing the same old, same old?
It is easy to get stuck in your comfort zone. It’s like putting on a pair of comfortable old shoes. You know they don’t look as good as a new pair but you can’t be bothered investing the time and money to do something about it.
Your comfort zone is not a place for you to stay permanently. It is simply a place where you can rest for a short period of time while you think about your next challenge.
If you stay in your comfort zone then you miss the opportunity to grow and make the changes you need to make now to have your life the way you want it.
People stay in their comfort zones because they fear the unknown. So if that rings a bell for you – let’s do something about it right now. I want you to ask yourself this: ‘If I knew I couldn’t fail, in fact I know I am going to be successful at whatever I choose – what is it I most want to do this year?’
Take your time to contemplate that. If you knew you couldn’t fail – what would you do differently this year?
Once you have your answer, focus on that. Give your energy to that. Now write down what you need to do to make it happen. Who do you need to talk to? What do you need to learn?
Then start right away!
The great news for those of you who did what I asked is that you just stepped out of your comfort zone. How easy was that?
Now keep moving forward and live the life you really want.
